Man-made islands on the quiet side of Miami Beach, dredged up on Henri Levy’s plan in the twenties. The street names came with it: Rue Vendome, Rue Notre Dame, Calais, Trouville. The Normandy Fountain still holds its plaza where 71st Street meets Normandy Drive, and the city’s Normandy Shores course has been playing one island over since 1941. Water on every side, mid-beach without the noise.
