Boyle Heights sits just east of the LA River along First Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue, with Mariachi Plaza at First and Boyle as its front door. Musicians have waited there for hire since the 1930s outside the old Boyle Hotel. The plaza's cantera stone kiosk arrived from Jalisco in 1998, topped with Santa Cecilia, patron saint of musicians.
