Bridgeport predates the grid — Archer Avenue follows the old canal route, which is why the streets around it refuse to line up. Built by canal diggers and stockyard workers, it produced both Mayor Daleys. The Ramova Theater opened in 1929, went dark in 1985, and came back in December 2023 as a concert hall with a brewery in back.
